Root Canal treatment

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure used to treat infection at the center of a tooth (the root canal system). The treatment is necessary when the pulp (the soft tissue inside the root canal) becomes inflamed or infected. This can be due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth. If left untreated, the infection can cause pain or lead to an abscess.

01

X-rays :

The dentist takes X-rays to see the shape of the root canals and determine if there are any signs of infection in the surrounding bone.

02

Anesthesia :

Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area around the affected tooth.

04

Cleaning and Shaping

The infected or dead pulp is removed using special instruments. The dentist then cleans and shapes the root canals to prepare them for filling.

Filling and Sealing :

  • Filling : After the canals are cleaned and shaped, they are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha. This is done in combination with an adhesive cement to ensure a complete seal of the root canals.
  • Temporary Filling : A temporary filling is placed in the opening of the tooth to protect it between appointments (if the treatment requires more than one visit).

Restoration :

  • Permanent Restoration : fter the root canal is completed, the tooth will need a permanent restoration, such as a crown, to protect and restore it
